If you don’t naturally enjoy fighting mobs of enemies, the game is a little tricky to judge as a full package. In rare honesty to a developer’s vision, this title provides a hack and slash experience that serves as unfiltered, mindless entertainment. A game that bares its soul to the world is N3: Ninety-Nine Nights. This core element is something many developers unsuccessfully omit, making the actual soul of the experience lost to fluff content. In its most basic form, video games are centered on instant-feedback fun. Unfortunately, N3: Ninety-Nine Nights is not one of those games that will spark any interest outside of the pretty character models. That's why developers need to take care that they offer something more than that samey melee combat against endless enemies. Hack and slash games have the stigma that they are repetitive and uninspired. Clearly, N3: Ninety-Nine Nights feels like it was made just to show off the potential of a console or game engine and nothing more. Players will enjoy the lush world they play in, but even that runs its course considering the linear gameplay. Unfortunately, the whole experience is a generic hack and slash outside the visuals. You'll feel like a hero, then suddenly lose purpose. The problem is that they put up so little resistance it's almost like throwing a giant bowling ball through paper pins. The intensity, flair, and style in combatting hundreds of enemies are epic. However, that's not to say that the battles aren't entertaining for at least a little while. Honestly, there was a hint at the beginning of the game, given the commitment to the beautiful environments, that this game wasn't going to be outstanding mechanically. It won't take players too long to realize that the game is a slug of repetitive hack and slash combat that doesn't differ a lot. You'll be holding the banner as a hero playing as one of seven unlockable characters.īut N3: Ninety-Nine Nights doesn't really get any better than the visuals. Instantly players feel immersed, setting the scene for the intense battles about to kick off before them. The character models, weapons, environments, and everything else tap into a vibrant color palette that brings this fantasy world to life. We've mentioned already that the visuals of this game are sublime. Let's see if the book matches up to the cover! Ninety-Nine Nights of Foes on the Wall Seemingly all the player will do is grind through hordes of enemies. Still, the gameplay looks far-fetched from the in-depth mechanics of that game. Perhaps that's because it is developed around that sort of aesthetic. N3: Ninety-Nine Nights has the vibe of a JRPG coming into a more explosive, real-time fray. Yep, it all looks pretty good, but even the most elementary console gamer knows that looks can be deceiving. The game showcases gorgeous graphics, fluid animations, and flash colors in this hack and slash adventure. If there's one game you want to showcase a brand new console's potential on, it may be N3: Ninety-Nine Nights.
